Here is the 27th chick (PHEBE)

This little girl has been picked on so badly that her head is scabbed over and keeps being reopened by naughty chicks who enjoy picking on her :(  I tried putting her with the four cochins but they were having none of that so here she is confined until the ducks come in.  I PRAY that they will be a good fit for her.  She will just have to become a duck and live with them.  As you can see her tail is down which in chicken language that either means she is sick or scared, in this case she is scared.  I will watch her closely and make sure she finds her food and water.  She is now relaxing in her new home...hope she cheers up when she finally realizes that she isn't going to be attacked every time she moves!  If the ducks don't work then I have NO clue what to do with her :(  Chickens are just plain mean when it comes to chicks who are smaller and weaker then they are.  If I had left her in there I'm sure she would have been dead by morning, poor girl! I have named her Phebe. 

The lil crew in their new home.

This is the lil new crew out of their brooder and into their new permanent home now. Funny how they are all hanging on one side of the coop and not one is on the other side which is also where their food/water is.  There are now 26 chicks in here (may be down two more as well because I THINK I have two roos(one being the white one that you can see here)).  I am not keeping two extra roos so they will be rehomed.  I think the other roo is the surprise chick which is a dark brahma.  I'm hoping that one is a hen but really don't think so.

Bantam cochins in blue and splash

This is my new crew They are young bantam cochins (2 blue 2 splash). They're pretty small yet so they have to be separated from the larger ones yet. I tried adding a chick from my crew I got from McMurray (she was being picked on to the point where they were drawing blood and she had to be removed) but they picked on her as well.  She had to be separated from everyone and will try to add her to the baby ducks when I get them and see how that goes. This crew will be added to the four other bantam cochins I have once they get to be the same size.

My new trio (partridge wyandotte)

This is my new Trio I got from a good friend of mine.  They are SO adorable!  They love their new coop and are right next door to a pair of bantam Orpingtons (the orpington hen is very broody and sitting on eggs) I had them since this last Friday and yesterday opened the door into their fenced in yard area and they loved it!

More of the older crew.

Some of the crew were still hanging out on the floor and were still complaining about not being able to go "home"  I hope they choose to see this as their home soon.  They will be happy again when they are let out to eat grass in their run (alot of it now that there were NO chickens in this coop all of last year and this year so far.)

Some of the older chickens move to their new home.

This in my Barnevelder crew and a few others who have joined them.  They are now in their new home as well.  They are not real happy with it yet but they will get used to it.  They WERE in this house before but they all moved themselves into the larger shed with the other crew last year.  I guess they liked it more.  I hope they will stay put now.  They do have a nice fenced in run which they will stay in for a week or so before letting them all out to free range again.  I want them to get used to going back home here rather then to the shed again.  It was VERY easy to get them INSIDE the run of this coop.  Here I thought I would have to carry each one come sunset when they went to bed.  All I did was get my bucket of corn and they all followed me down to the run and in they all went!  Shut the door and done!  VERY nice!  I do love my Barnie crew...they are very sweet!

The crew just shy of 8 weeks old.

The brooder has proved to make it through more than the 6 weeks we had planned for the chicks.  They are now at 8 weeks old and do need to move out to the bigger house because they are now starting to pick at each other. Just started noticing this a few days ago so got the big girls moved down to their new home so I could get this crew moved into the larger home since there are 27 of these and only 13 of the big girls.
